Yesterday the neighborhood folks got together and made a gigantic igloo. We made a duplex with a detached meeting room. You know, the place where you sit in a circle and make the important community decisions. It was fantastic to be kids all day. Probably 40 degrees in the sun, and the perfect consistency snow for making blocks with recycle bins. I think we spent a good four or five hours on these igloos. Pretty single-minded play. The kids lost interest in the actual work aspect after a while, and just played around us adults. So interesting how adults are so goal oriented, and kids are so in the moment. We were so proud of our very first igloos ever. We did remarkably well for having no idea how to create a roof out of snow. Want to see the building in action? Perhaps we will survive in the Arctic when we reach peak oil and have to flee the crumbling centers of civilization. It wasn't wilderness survival school or anything, but it made us feel good to make something with our own hands and communal labor. Today: igloo. Tomorrow: straw bale house!
The "Lakeside Eight" lit candles and ate hot brownies in the igloo last night. All the neighborhood kids were in bed. The igloos were ours to play in for a while.

Jason Likes Igloos. and he likes a good meal and a cold drink. (Hot drinks are okay too, sometimes.) He really like Star Wars though. Understanding that is importnat. This is a comment.
