We've been back for a week already. What a different sort of vacation it was this time, with a baby in tow. We learned a few lessons, number one being that you don't take a 4 month old to the beach. It's just asking for trouble. Sand is not a good medium for babies. They want to sink their hands in it, and then before you know it the scratchy little bits are in every fold and orifice. Especially the eyes. This makes them very unhappy. Babies--at least mine--do seem to love the sound of waves, though, so one thing you can do is walk the beach with them. Just be sure every single patch of skin is covered, because it takes a white baby about 3 minutes to burn. A little stressful, all in all. Maybe better to go out for raw oysters and walk the perimeter of the in-laws' gated community. Or check out the wildlife at the state park. Best of all, go to an aquarium and watch your baby watch the colorful, flashy fish swim circles in their tanks. We did all of the above, but the best part of the whole vacation was just having so much uninterrupted time with Mazin and his dad. We didn't even have to cook. Nothing to do but care for and amuse the baby. What a luxury.
